Emelianenko-Sonnen showdown date set

Fedor Emelianenko vs Chael Sonnen

It appears that the Bellator Grand Prix semi-final bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen finally has a date set.  According to Newsday, the two heavyweights will square off at the NYCB Live Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY on October 13 to determine who moves on to the finals.

Emelianenko, considered by many to be one of the best heavyweights in MMA history, made his way to the semi-finals by knocking out Frank Mir in just 48 seconds in their quarter-final bout at Bellator 198 back in April.

Sonnen, who made a name for himself in the UFC  before moving to Bellator MMA, grabbed his semi-final spot with a unanimous decision win over Quinton” Rampage” Jackson back in January at Bellator 192.

This will be the first event in Long Island for Bellator. Coincidentally,  it takes place one day after the other semi-final bout of the Grand Prix. Matt Mitrione is set to take on light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader on October 12, 2018, at Bellator 207 inside the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
