Forrest Griffin is a  former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Griffin first rose to prominence after winning the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. In the tournament finals, he fought and defeated Stephan Bonnar in Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar, which is widely credited as sparking the current success of the UFC.

Griffin a faced several notable opponents in his road to the UFC gold, namely Tito Oriz, Keith Jardine, and Shogun Rua, whom he defeated by submission in a huge upset victory at UFC 76. 

He went on to serve as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 7 opposite Quinton Jackson.Griffin would go on to win the fight by unanimous decision to capture the light heavyweight title. Griffin went on to fight Rashad Evans in his next fight, losing the title by TKO in the third round at UFC 92.

Griffin announced his retirement from MMA fighting on May 26,2013 citing injuries as the reason for his announcement
