PFL 4 Main Card Bouts(NBCSN)

Starting off the main card action was heavyweight powerhouses, Philipe Lins and Alex Nicholson. The first round saw both fighters trading shots as Nicholson pressed the action. Lins managed to keep his distance while landing some good leg kicks from the outside, as well as and shots to the body, getting the better of the exchanges between him and the clearly frustrated Nicholson. The second round saw Nicholson turn up and land several shots that had Lins in troubled waters. Lins managed to recover from the onslaught and land a good combination that sent Nicholson into retreat mode. From there, Lins swarmed Nicholson landing several more shots, one of which dropped Nicholson allowing Lins to swarm in and finish with a series of hammerfists that led to the stoppage at 1:21 left in the second round. Lins moves up into 3rd place in the heavyweight field, while Nicholson’s loss leaves him in 5th place for the season.

The second main card fight was a featherweight bout between octagon vets Steven Siler and Alexandre Almeida. This bout will probably be one of the most controversial fights of this PFL season as it seemed that referee Dan Miragliotta may have stopped the fight too soon.  Just seconds into the beginning of the fight,  Siler caught Almeida with a right hand that stunned him, allowing Siler to immediately catch  Almeida in a guillotine. While camera angles never showed Almeida going limp or tapping, Miragliotta apparently saw something viewers missed, as he stopped the fight just 34 seconds into the first round. Siler’s win put’s him at the top of the featherweight standings while leaving Almeida trailing behind in 5th place.

Top seed at featherweight locked up in less than a minute. Steven Siler wins in the first round and earns 6 points.

Next up, heavyweight sluggers  Francimar Barroso and Jack May. This was another short-lived fight, minus any controversy. The fight started with both men throwing kicks at one another, but it was a high leg kick thrown by May that was the beginning of the end, as Barroso grabbed the extended leg and tripped May for the takedown, where he continued working on May until securing a choke, forcing the stoppage at just 1:36 into the first round. Barroso’s win secures him the top spot among the heavyweight competition, while May sits safely in 4th place.

That’s a wrap! Francimar Barroso locks up the arm triangle choke in the first round, earning 6 points and the top seed in the heavyweight playoffs.

Finally, the main event. This featherweight bout matchup featured former WSOF featherweight champ Lance  Palmer going up against UFC veteran Jumabieke Tuerxun. From the opening round, this fight turned out to be the most one-sided fight of the evening. Palmer managed to get control of the fight early on in the first round. After a failed single-leg takedown by Tuerxun,  Palmer took Tuerxun’s back, working him over in the clinch before getting Tuerxun to the ground,  where he dropped several shots and simply smothered Tuerxun on the ground for the duration of the first round.

“The Party” was all business tonight! Lance Palmer scores a third round submission finish and earns 4 points.

The second round wasn’t much different from the first. Twelve seconds into the round and Palmer has his back again and takes the fight back to the ground, where he repeats the round in the same fashion as he did the 1st round, completely smothering him while delivering some great ground-and-pound. The third round didn’t make it to the ground as quickly as the other two rounds, but at 2:48 into the third, Palmer got control on the ground again after another failed takedown attempt by Tuerxun. Palmer controlled him up until the final twenty-five seconds, where he managed to sink in a deadly neck crank, forcing the tap. Palmer’s second win of the season moves him into 2nd place in the featherweight field, while Tuerxun is eliminated from the competition in 10th place.
